Elafonisi, Crete

   80 km from the city of Chania you will find Elafonisi, a gorgeous sandy beach with emerald waters and a tiny island facing the beach not too far away. Elafonisi is where you will find the peace of paradise, with all the colors of the summer surrounding you. You can reach it on foot and be rewarded for your toil with white sands, skies of blue, seas of emerald and rolling sandy hills while you get your refreshments at the small bar there.

  Elafonisi isn’t only limited to its beautiful beach and island. The general district has been labeled “NATURA” and has quite a few endangered species residing within, with a couple of “LIFE” programs already running.

SUGGESTED ROUTE TO ELAFONISI

It’s not only Elafonissi that is exceptional in its picturesque beauty, but the route there can also be part of your experience.

We’re suggesting one of the most inclusive routes, to offer you as many opportunities to make memories with your friends and family as possible on your way to our little paradise:

Starting off from a visit to Kolymbari which is a large picturesque village, also equipped with a beautiful beach, we move on to Gonia Monastery. Gonia Monastery is very significant in modern Greek history and contains many relics, so consider it a museum.

The road trip after includes crossing the plain of Kissamos to Kastelli, the area’s capital that is mostly untouched by tourism, basing its development in oil and wine production. In fact, the area is famous for its wine, so don’t forget to sample it!

With 20 km to go until reaching Elafonissi, you can drive through the villages of Topoli and Elos or stop there for a coffee or food, as they feature excellent tavernas. If you are keen for folklore and history, do make a stop at the monastery of Chryssoskalitissa (=the Golden Step) and wander through its bird’s eye view structure- and if you feel you’re one of the truly pious, test the legend and try to find the golden step in its staircase. When you’re through with your adventure, the paradise beach of Elafonisi is only minutes’ drive away!
